Just when we think we've seen every clock imaginable, another comes along. This one, Moshi is not only fun, contemporaty and easy to use, but it a great clock for people who are sight impaired.

Everything on this clock is set by voice except the date. I just plug it in and say "Hello Moshi" and the clock replies... waiting for my response and I say "set time" and the clock says, "Tell me the time you want it to be" And I say 7:25am and it is repeated back...AMAZING! As Time Flies

In our clock shop, I sit and just listen to the steady tick-tock tick-tock and it is amazingly comforting and company when I alone. I think of my mom and dad and their insistence on punctuality and the older they got the earlier they would arrive at their destination. Thoughts of my uncle also pass through my mind as he had some beautiful old antique clocks - that we have repaired!

My thoughts are interrupted by the chiming of a grandfather clock...the chimes so much resonant than a wall or mantel clock- though any mechanical clock sounds wonderful to my ear...as long as it is in tune. Soon my mind returns to the past and how fast time has gone by. It seems like just the other day I was a new mom and now, not so much...but still a mom.

Now, I think about the future and in the clock shop, time ticks away very slowly...second my second...minute by minute...hour by hour and so it goes, but still time flies somewhere.

Mechanical Westminster Chiming Clocks - Green Energy!

The Westminster chimeing mechanical clock - be it a grandfather, mantel or wall clock - is an amazing piece of art. These clocks are about as green as you can be in the energy department. They don't require batteries, electricity, wind, solar, or nuclear energy...they just need you!

A simple winding once a week and they are timepieces you can count on throughout the week. The chimes sound each quarter hour. Four notes of the chime are played at 15 minutes past the hour, 8 notes are played at the half hour, 12 notes are played at a quarter til the hour and at the top of the hour, the full 16 note Westminster chime plays and then the hourly strike counts the proper hour.

These wonderful clocks require very little of us except to be operated by the instructions, cleaned and oiled every few years ( depending if there is smoking in the home or construction it would be sooner) and winding it each week.

2010 - Amazing!

It was just the '60's and the Fab Four we just starting their whirlwind
lives with the unique songwriting and style that gave a new perspective to
music that it had never had before.

Now all these years later, yes, we have a clock - not with just the Beatles image on
it, but with their music IN it. This clock plays one of six different Beatles tunes on the hour. O.k....there's no screaming teens in the background, but it's still impressive.

Clock Mouse in the House!

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house...
Not a creature was stirring except for the mouse.

The clock had been wound for the week with such care,
To head toward the new year of fun and fanfair.

Cookies sat out for ole Santa Claus
But that little mouse just gave it no pause

He ran 'cross the floor too a great yummy bite,

I'll bring the stuffing, and the green bean casserole and the gravy and....does this sound familiar in your house- with your family?

Thanksgiving is this week and we all have so much to be thankful for just living in the United States. All is not perfect, but I know of nowhere else I would rather live.

Thanksgiving had been celebrated since the Pilgrims made it through their first winter. It became sporadic being observed mainly by the states until Abraham Lincoln officially made Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863.

So this Tuesday and Wednesday, when you are out shopping for food, let those of us who can-help those who need greatly right now. A sack of groceries dropped off at a church, Salvation Army or Mission...or a few dollars to them so they can purchase what they need for people would help so much.

Mantel Clocks Have Arrived

Mantel clocks are clocks that were a mainstay in every home in the 1920's and 30's. Not every home had a mantel, but nearly every house had a mantel clock. At that time, quartz battery clocks were not being produced and all the clocks were mechanical and wound once a week with a key.

Mechanical mantel clocks today are very much the same as they were decades ago with a few improvements and German imported movements. The clocks still run for 8 days, some have the Westminster chime now and some still have the time and strike that was available in the older clocks. The newer clocks repeat the style of the older and the tradition goes on.

Not only does the wood clock warm a home aesthetically, but the chimes keep you from being lonely...almost like the heartbeat of the home...ticking away.

After nearly 15 years in the same location, which is the 4th location for I Love Clocks, we have taken our store on down the road about a half mile.

Change is not bad and this move will allow us to offer our customers a better selection of clocks and gift

Creative Clocks

It is amazing how there are so many creative ways to present a clock. What could say Las Vegas better than the logo and dice?

This is a very cool variation of the sunburst clocks made popular by designer George Nelson. Somehow, I don't think that all things that happen in Las Vegas stay in Las Vegas. I would imagine this left town with a tourist.

Our Memories are Bookmarked with Time

Twenty years, thirty years, sometimes even forty years of service at a company is usually rewarded and remembered in different ways.

At our clock shop we have seen many clocks come through for "tune-ups" that they received for their many years of service as retirement gifts. Many years ago, the larger corporations would give a grandfather clock to someone who had put in all the work for their company. For the most part, though, we see a lovely brass or wood mantel clock with a fine engraved sentiment of the loyalty to the firm. The clocks are quality clocks and it is nice to see the generosity and appreciation of the people who recognize the significance of each and every piece of the puzzle that makes up the puzzle of their success.

When thinking of a special retirement gift- think of a clock. it will last longer than a weekend at the beach, a nice dinner, silver bowl (that will probably never be used) or trophy-type plaque. The Fun of Having Grandchildren!

There is nothing more fun than having the grandkids come for a visit. We love every minute of them being with us. Grandparents can even let them eat ice cream and jello for dinner (yikes) But...we love them and as they grow and we grow older, we want them to know us and remember special things and occasions.

We live several hours from the grandkids and they are still quite young...however, we do send things to the two year old so he has a surprise now and then from grandma and grandad. Soon, we will have packages going out all the time as the kids get older.

Our two year old grandson's clock broke in his room and his mom asked him what kind he wanted. He said..."Let's call grandma" He knew where all the clocks were.

Long Days

Take advantage of the long days...they are so nice. Our garden is growing and the strawberries and rasberries are wonderful. There is nothing better than a fresh batch of scones with berries and a lemon glaze and a great cup of coffee in the morning.

Sitting out in the garden with my scones and coffee, I could just let the time fly by, so I have my outdoor clock by Howard Miller-so I don't get to the store after my customers arrive. What a great way to start any day!

Father's Day

This Sunday is Father's Day. It is a special day to me as I have wonderful memories of my father who's integrity would be difficult to match, his love for our family, sense of humor (too much at times) and sincere faith I still miss after nine years.

My husband, who is the father of our boys - now men- has always seen the best in them and loved each one for their own strenths never comparing the two. He loved to play and have fun with them. Photos from early years show the pride of his sons.

Now - our sons and their wives have children and they are wonderful parents. We couldn't ask for more than for our grandchildren to be as blessed with love as they are. I saw the same pride in their eyes when their young ones came into the world as when they did. Dad's are great - they deserve as day (As do Moms!!!)

Then there is my friend, who I love to see when I can. He is younger than my dad, but he and his wife are like mom and dad to me as I can pick up the phone and talk for an hour to them. I admire this man as he was and is a Marine- fought in World War II and has love for his country and likes just about everyone.

So if you don't have a dad this year - find one...they need you. If you don't have a child out there-find one and everyone have a Happy Father's Day!

Memorial Day

Being in the "time" business, Memorial Day is a special occasion because it reminds me that each and every minute of our lives counts. Every breath and every move means something.

My parents lived through the depression and were hard working frugal people who valued each and every penny they earned. My father worked two jobs most of his life to make ends meet and we had a great life. I thought we were quite well off! We all ate together and vacationed once a year- it was a great family to have.

Mom and Dad are both gone now and I am living in the home that he built with his hands...he worked on it every day after work and on weekends. This home is quality and it is a legacy to their goals and dreams and hard work.

My point? This memorial day, I will remember them, as I do every day, but I will remember them as I mentally walk through Memorial Gardens where lies my great aunt, grandmother, aunt and two uncles and pay tribute to their lives by learning from the lessons of their living.

The Voyager and My Brother

One Christmas, not having the remotest idea of what my brother and his wife would like as a gift, I remembered we had just received a new Rhythm clock called the Voyager. Oh, my ...this was it! It played 12 melodies...one every hour and at Christmas time you had your choice of 3 Christmas Songs. Perfect. There was just one BIG drawback. It was, well shaped like the wheel of a ship! Not exactly how my brother and his wife had just decorated their new remodel-a very updated look and sea haggy - not.

Well, I sent it as I just felt it was the right thing to send that year. Amazingly, they had purchased a beautiful painting of a ship to hang above their fireplace and they were decorating in a kind of nautical look. Amazing how the Lord works.

It is his birthday this week and I am even though you can never have too many clocks, I think he has his walls full.

Incomparable workmanship. Unsurpassed quality. A quest for perfection. It’s what Howard C. Miller insisted on when he founded the company back in 1926, at the age of 21.

Even then, Howard Miller understood the need to create products that would be steeped in quality and value. He expected nothing less than the best. And it was only under those strict conditions that he allowed his name to grace every clock manufactured at our sprawling facility in Zeeland, Michigan.

Howard Miller was schooled in the fine art of clockmaking by his father, Herman, in the Black Forest region of Germany. Howard developed into a visionary whose keen sense of innovation spawned a tradition of excellence that has been uncompromised through three generations.

While the early years focused on the manufacture of chiming wall and mantel clocks, Howard Miller also produced trend-setting avant garde clocks that stand today in collectors' galleries. During World War II, Howard Miller joined forces with the Ford Motor Co. to produce anti-aircraft covers. In the 1960s, the company turned its attention to grandfather clocks, eventually earning the company the title of "World's Largest Grandfather Clock Manufacturer."

In 1989, Howard Miller began creating collectors cabinets with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship inherent in their clockmaking. Fashioned from glass and hardwoods, the cabinets are ideal for displaying heirlooms, plates, glassware and other collectibles.

It Could be the Batteries!

Batteries need to be changed in clocks every year. Change them on a schedule such as when you are changing the time in the fall or spring...or on a particular holiday.

When there is any problem with a battery-operated clock...the first consideration is the batteries, even if it doesn't seem logical. Listed are a few things to remember.

* Even if the batteries you have ran the clock before a time change, just subtle changes may cause enough interruption that you would need to replace the batteries.

* When you replace batteries, they must be brand new and have an expiration date of no less than 2015 to be sure of proper strength.

* Never Never mix old and new batteries. It can cause corrosion and your clock could be ruined.

* Some batteries have been re-designed and have small channels in the negative ends that don't make sufficient contact to operate a clock. We suggest Duracell brand.

Spring Forward

March 8th at 2AM Daylight Saving Time will begin. Spring is almost here and Summer soon thereafter. Although, each minute in ones life should be cherished, it is difficult not to look toward the warmth of the summer months.

This is the time of year when you are not quite sure what the temperature is going to be when you go out. This great clock we have available tells you the time and the indoor and outdoor temperature. You'll know what to wear at a glance. It's also an "atomic clock" so you put the batteries in, set the time zone that you are in, and it does the rest!

Since you are changing your clocks, why not be safe and change the battery in your smoke alarm also. Only about half of the alarms in the country are fully functional because of low, dead or corroded batteries.

Anniversary Clocks

Anniversary clocks appeared in the 1890's and became more and more popular into the early 1900's. These newly styled clocks started production which would only need to be wound about once per year up to 400 days. Hence the name "Anniversary Clock" started. These clocks became popular and were a favorite gift for an anniversary because it needed winding only once a year on one's anniversary. The anniversary clock also became a popular wedding gift.

The anniversary clock has a torsion spring and is sometimes referred to as a torsion pendulum clock. This is a unique group of clocks. The spring operates only a few types of clocks. The Atmos clocks also have the same type of spring.

At the end of the spring is a weighted disk or wheel, often a decorative wheel with 3or 4 chrome balls on ornate spokes, suspended by a thin wire or ribbon called a torsion spring. This pendulum rotates twisting it, instead of swinging like an ordinary pendulum. The force of the twisting torsion spring reverses the direction of rotation, so the pendulum rotates slowly, clockwise and counterclockwise. The clock's gears apply a pulse of torque to the top of the torsion spring each rotation to keep the wheel going. The gears move the hands to tell the time and tell the clock when to chime - if there is a chime.

As technology progressed, these clocks started using quartz movements which made the anniversary clock more accurate and less costly to maintain.

Today, the Anniversary Clock is the perfect anniversary or wedding gift which will last a lifetime and provide a daily reminder of a couples anniversary.

January and New Beginnings...

Every January with the start of the new year, I always anticipate the coming months as new clock models from Howard Miller and Bulova as well as Seiko and Rhythm will be revealed. Just when you think a clock company can't make a more imaginative clock...an absolutely amazing one comes along.

I also look forward to seeing every customer that walks through our door. Almost every person has a clock memory. Most stories are of cuckoo clocks or grandfather clocks that were in the family when the person was a child.

2009 is the year of.............Others.
